Vikx eats Sweden!

Sorry for the lack of updates! We got home fine!

Whilst I was in Sweden I knew I had to find some of the local sweets to try and blog about.

To start off with I have a small sample of some little bits and bobs. Lets begin!

All of the smaller sweets we got from a sweet shop which sold all different types of miniature sweets, which was perfect. I didn't see the point in getting all large sweets just incase I hated them.

Ok first of all we have the Not- Creme in the bottom right hand corner, apparently this started off as a cake topping, but was so popular with the kids, they turned it into a sweet.

The slogan on the front reads - Good thing with a taste for more

When I opened the packet all I could smell was hazelnut, well I think was hazelnut! It reminded me of nutella, but paler in colour. It has a smooth texture but every now and then you can pick up a little bit of nut, it is super sweet too, its a bit like a doughnut topping. Its nice but I really don't think I could eat much of it. I know why they put it in little packets now!

Next up we have Dumle original (now this is actually Finnish not Swedish - I never knew this until now)- this used to be a lollipop which they sold at Ikea, but they stopped making them, they are now just small sweets. I have no idea what falvour this is supposed to be!

The sweet is chocolate covered, the chocolate is smooth and rather quite nice! The filling is a very soft caramel but with a hint of liquorice I think. They are very nice. Would definitely buy again!

Next up is the Rollo did not see this any where to buy in big packs, only in the sweet shop with the selections. Upon opening the packet it looks like a caramel chew. It smells sweet and smooth.

Ok I will admit that I ate the rest of it before I could get a photo of the cut section! It was fantastic! A soft smooth creamy caramel. Oh it was so good!

Next up we have a Toms - I think this might be honey flavoured as its got what looks to be a honeycomb pattern on the packet, there is only way to find out! nom nom nom

Before I unwrapped this candy, I noticed on the bottom a sticker which says skildpadde - google translate tells me that this is infact Danish not Swedish and it means Turtle. Makes sense now, its not a honeycomb pattern is a turtle shell!! (Also bit let down that this is not Swedish, the woman in the shop was telling me how fantastic Swedish sweets are and most of these aren't Swedish!)

Ok so after unwrapping the sweet, I can see that yes it does indeed look like a turtle, its got little feet and a head! It smells rich, and is covered in a dark chocolate.

I hope you can see the tiny features of the turtle in the photo.

The filling is a bit odd, again it has a caramel center but there is a white filling on top of that very runny, I think its brandy or something. Certainly booze flavoured.
Its overly sweet and rich again. Not something you could eat a lot of. In fact I am still in to minds if I like this or not.

Ok I might be starting to regret doing this blog with so many little sweets, thats what I get really for not realising they are mostly caramel filled!

Onwards and upwards - next up we have .....

Banana Skids - Not the most appealing name in the world, but I get it you can slip on a banana skin.

To me this appears to be a chew type bar, a bit like the Whams and things we get over here. Opening the packet you have the first initial wrapper and then a wax paper. I guess to top it sticking.

It smells like artificial banana, which is to be expected. Tastes a bit like a banana milkshake, can't quite put my finger on what the brown side is supposed to be. The chew is soft and easy to eat. Its OK, wouldn't want to eat it again though.

Next up with have another Toms product - Punch Pokal - No translation for this one unfortunately.

I am guessing this will be along the same lines as the last Toms candy, liquid center with dark chocolate.

I was right, this one is dark chocolate but with a white liquid center. No idea what the falvour is, I think it is supposed to be alcoholic coffee. Either way its gross! I nearly spat this one out it was that bad.

Wow this is an epic sweet marathon right here. Phew nearly there! I might leave the larger of the sweets IE Kex and Plopp for another day!

Up next we have Momenti blue and orange. These to me seem quite posh, their wrappers are rather pretty.
Upon opening these sweets, it looks like the orange one may have gone off as it was a different colour. As you can see from the photo.

Orange is on the left and blue is on the right

Lets start with the blue sweet - almost feel like the matrix here red pill or blue pill - I'll go for blue this time please.

Oh yummy this is nice, its like a white chocolate filling with rice crispies in it! Very nice, but again very rich. Im not sure why all these sweets are so rich.

The orange one is sadly not orange flavour but it is along the same concept, this time it is chocolate filled with rice crispies in it. The taste is some what ruined by the chocolate being off though. Which is a shame. Out of the two I have to say the white chocolate is the best.

Overly I have to say I am a little disappointed in the chocolates, all to rich and a bit to sweet for me. I am hoping the others I have to try will be better. I have quite a few left to to including their liquorice and things.

Well hope you have enjoyed this! I now feel a bit sick, i'm off to lay down and have a drink!

Adventures in Europe - 4th October

So here we are, our full final day in Sweden, and I'm ill. OK I have a cold, but I think have glandular fever earlier in the year has made me weaker when it comes to colds. I can't walk upstairs with out being out of breath...I feel so unfit, health wise it has not been the best year for me!

I sit here in the living room, after just having dinner with mag, he had a Swedish pizza and I had a Greek salad and chicken kebab meat. Not what I expected but it was very nice!!  It looks like there loads of fry's on there, but there isn't is mainly salad and meat :)

So today we have been mainly cleaning up and packing, I did have a nap this afternoon in a bid to make myself feel better. It worked! I just wish my nose would stop running.

Mag has been trying to get the washing done, he kept forgetting until today, and I have been assisting with the packing this evening. When he went out to get the food I cleaned the kitchen the best I could before I had to sit down.

Tomorrow we have to drive over 370 miles to get a 20 minute ferry from Sweden to Denmark and then we have to drive to get the main ferry back to the UK. We are leaving at about 9:30 - 10:00 AM at the latest, our ferry leaves at 6:30PM so we have to be there in good time.

We hopefully will be back in the UK by 12:30 on Sunday. Then its about 2 hours drive back to Peterborough. I am looking forward to being home to check on my lizards which have been looked after by some very good friends of ours.

Will update about the drive back, we are hoping it is a smooth trip just like the one to Sweden, but I have heard the weather back home has been a bit rough. So lets see how the ferry goes!!!

Adventures in Europe - 3rd October

Woke up at about 8.30 today which made a change from 4.30am, although I did wake up with a killer sore throat. Turns out I have a cold...boooo

While I sat on the sofa snuggled up, mag cooked breakfast. Felt like having something hot to help the throat. I was given...a fresh bacon sandwich, and a lemsip!

We didn't really have a plan for today, so want over to Broas to have another look around, we thought there may be a shoe shop there to have a look at.

I slept all the way there in a bid to make myself feel better, it worked so much.

When we got there, we went to din sko and I tired on loads of boots, in the end I chose a nice pair of lace up biker boots.

They worked out at £49, not too bad.

We headed to a store called Kicks which I think is like Superdrug. The first time I went there I found some lip balm I love, its called EOS. I got some when I went to the states but its all nearly gone!

I chose 3, tropical punch, blueberry and raspberry also got a new black alice band for my hair!

We then stopped in by a store like HMV in which we discovered a collectors edition of the 2 latest titles from Blizzard and the largest pick and mix section either of us have ever seen  we had to get some so  we got  a large tub filled with goodies, from  Kanneland we went to the ICA Maxi to  get a few  bits and bobs the final time we were going there as we head home on Saturday and tomorrow is as day of tidying and  cleaning.

When we got home we had a sauna and chilled out, we had soup, meatballs and oven chips for dinner

there will a couple more updates from out European road trip over the next few days.

Adventures in Europe - 2nd October

Wall of text ahead.

Nearly time for us to head home, so again we were getting the last few bits. We decided yesterday that we wanted to try and go for another walk and see if we spot any more elk. I thought it would be a good idea if we left it till the lateish afternoon. Just as the sun was going down as that's when the elk seem to appear.

We had an easy chilled out morning again, we had lunch before we headed out.

We went to gallstad first, to have another look around the factory shops, they also have a shoe shop there too, so we had a look around. Sadly nothing in there was right, apart from the ones which are over £200!! Needless to say we didn't buy anything from there!

Before we went for our walk we wanted to have a quick wonder around Ulricehamn ,to get some bread and something to drink for the walk. We also wanted to see if we could find any shoe shops to see if  I could get the boots. But sadly there was nothing there.

When we had finished looking around, we got ready and headed back to Komosse to see if we can spot any elk. By now it was about 4.30 and it had gotten a lot cooler.

So we got ready, coats, hats, gloves and scarves on! I even got a chance to use my gators which I got to take to the Falklands, but never used them!

Then the intrepid travelers set off!!! Everything was going so well, we headed over the road first to get some shots of the lake, and found elk tracks. The lake looked amazing so I got some photos.

We set off back across the road and down the track, the sun was going down quite fast now, and it really was getting colder. I was being attacked by bugs! For a change mag wasn't

I wanted to sit down and enjoy the silence, which was then ruined by some PPI company calling mags mobile! We then carried on walking down the foot path. Still no sign of an elk any where. In fact no signs of any wildlife at all.
I got some good shots of the surrounding and some mushrooms caught in the sunlight. Mag was taking to me and noticed something in my hair where I took my hat off, he went to grab it and it bit me! This is when things started to go down hill!

I asked what kind of bug it was mag could only say a big nasty on
e you don't want to know about, which creep me out a little. He then got bitten too. At this point it was starting to get dark and I didn't feel happy being in the woods in the dark, so we turned around and made our way back to the car. This was when I slipped and jarred my back and shoulder. So glad I didn't fall or drop the camera, thank heavens for neck straps!

We got back to the car and got rid of the walking gear, we felt fine until we got home. I went to sit on the laptop and update the blog and upload photos, when I felt something moving down my neck. Put my hand there and found it was one of the nasty bugs, which freaked me out. I managed to kill it, then mag sat down and said he thought he was just bitten by something when he checked he found one of the same bugs feasting on him! He killed it and it was full of blood. GROSS.......

At this point I flipped my lid and ran for a shower, I refused to have any of the clothes we had on for the walk in the same room as me, and they have now all been washed and checked for bugs!!! No idea what they were but they were nasty!

We had a chilled out evening once again, we had soup followed by a local meat which is the cuts offs of all the local cooked meats put in a pack. All different things. Will update about that soon.

Adventures in Europe - 1st October

As this week we are winding down and getting ready to head home on Saturday, we are pretty much going to the same places to get anything we saw first time round.

So today we headed back to Jonkoping back to the A6 center and to Ikea. I wanted to get some candles from Ikea.

So we got up head breakfast, pretty sure it was bacon again! We are eating a lot of bacon, I guess its because they don't to packs of bacon over there they do ROLLS of bacon, its just one massive roll of bacon!

After breakfast we got ready and headed out.

First of all we went around Ikea, we wanted to get some of the plastic bins they do and I wanted to get some awesome candles I smelt the last time we were there.

We had a wonder around and checked out some of their new stuff, we really liked the compact house idea they have. We both agreed that if we ever have enough money Ikea can just come in and do the house!

So I picked out an apple and cinnamon, 2 fruit punches, 1 berry and then another fruit one. (not sure what it is) I love the fruit punch candles, each time we walk past them in the hall way we take a bit sniff of the air!

We went back to the car and put the stuff from Ikea in, to save us carrying it around the A6 center.

We didnt need much from there but wanted another look around. I unfortunately ended up having another panic attack so I had to have a time out in the car and just gather myself again. I am thinking about doing a blog about going on holiday with anxiety problems. I'm still thinking about it.

Wondering around the A6 center, I spotted a shoe shop I keep seeing the ads for on TV, they have a catching song and this really damn annoying girl who is wearing a skirt which has a big shear panel in it then the rest of the skirt materiel. Which really annoys me, as it looks stupid. Is it a skirt wanting to be something else? I really don't know.

Here is the video so you can see for yourself!

I tried on a great pair of boots, but they were a little expensive so we carried on. We had another good look around Clas Ohlson, got some bits for people back home. Not saying what as that would ruin the surprise!

Once we got bored we headed to City Gross again to get some bread and stuff, we also wanted to get some bits as we were going to try and go for another walk the next day.

We had dinner, left over soup and chilled out! Nothing overly exciting really.
