Mag drags me to every sports shop in Goteborg and I get soaked.

26th September

Hey there!

We headed off to Goteborg, to have a wander around the shops and as the title states see if we can find mag a new helmet.

We head off and just as we set out the door it starts to rain, and oh boy did it rain a lot. I fell asleep for most of the drive. Mag said it was pretty nasty on the roads. The only photo I got of the drive was the one below. Those clouds look so inviting eh!

Once we had parked the car and made a mental note of the floor we were on. Off to trotted in to the nordstan shopping center. It was pretty busy as they are having some sort of special weekend when all the stores are giving big discounts on their Autumn Winter range. This also meant we were greeted by very loud music and a massive stage, for a fashion show. Urgh.

Mag had the great idea to head to the lower level and see what was down there until the show had finished. It was so much quieter down there. We had a look in a game shop and then in a shop which sold games and then hoodies and things. Nothing really interesting to see. Oh apart from a ton of minecraft items.

We got a bit bored wandering around the store so went off to find a jewelry shop I went to last year and got my thumb ring. Thankfully we found it really easily. Walk out the main door and its down the street a little!

The shop is called Avi & Lena, it has all many of silver pieces in there. I honestly could of spent hours just trying on all the rings! I was after a ring for my index finger, been looking for one for ages now but just could not find the right style. I narrowed it down to just two, then the lady said that she has one a bit like my thumb ring. ( I mentioned to her that I went to the shop last year and got my thumb ring) She showed me a double love heart ring, it was so nice. They only had three left and none of them fitted :( She offered to check in the back and came back with one more! I held my breath as I tried it on. It was perfect. Looks really good too!

You can just about see the thumb ring, its not as shiny as the new one. Really should give it a good clean. We will be heading back there next Friday before we head home. So if im good and have some money left over might get another one!! We shall have to see.

After leaving the shop, mag had to look in yet another games shop! I decided to sit outside in a little seating area. Started to feel a bit funny. I was not sure if it was down to there being too many people around or I was hungry. I let him know as soon as he reappeared and off we went in search of food. Mag knew exactly where he wanted to have lunch (for a change) he wanted to go the chinese buffet we went to last year. I guess it made an impression on him!

We got our seats, mag went up to get some food for me. He appeared with the plate to your right. A good mix of food, chicken, salad and noodles! I made a massive mistake when I went up to get my own food, I ended up picking a massive plate of battered FISH! In a panic and headed back to mag with just this fish on my plate, and put it all on his and ran off again to get the noodles I wanted and chicken! We both had enough after one and a half plates. So decided to call it quits on lunch.

This was pretty much bad timing as we headed towards the door, we saw everyone running inside soaking wet. Yes thats right there was a torrential downpour. We just sucked it up and headed off. We had to real destination which did not overly help. So we walked a bit and then walked a bit more. I got fed up and took my glasses off (couldn't really see where I was heading)

We stumbled across a naughty lingerie shop next door to a exotic sex shop. We both guessed they may be owned by the same people. We then found a piercing studio and then a massive make up store. We then walked along the river for a bit. Please remember this is still in the bloody rain... I'm totally soaked by now. My nice hair I had done in the morning just looked like a flipping rats nest.

See nice hair....Wish I had a photo after our trip.

Anyhow, back to the walk. We then made our way to the indoor market had a brisk walk around there and went back outside again in the rain again. By this point we were soaked and gave up on trying to keep dry, the rain did stop for about 10 minutes. We just kept on walking down all the random streets going past clothes shops, toy shops, bingo places you name it. Again I wish I took more photos. Stupid rain.

We happened to stumble across one of my favourite beauty shops, so had a good mooch about in there. Found about 3 nail varnish I would love and sniffed a stupid amount of perfume! I was very good and did not buy a thing! Waiting till next Friday.

See all the pretty colours!!!!!

We left the shop, empty handed (just thought I would add that in again) I was tired and mag wanted to go to a different part of town. Over the river to look at a sports shop. So we hopped in the car, and drove on our merry way following the satnav...and we got lost. Like totally and utterly lost. I kept joking that we would end up in some sort of ghetto..I don't think mag appreciated my humour.

After mag gave up, pulled in to a random parking space. He had to use the data on his phone to get the right address! Why he didn't have it before hand no idea. Once the correct address was put in the nav we were once again on our way. They really like their tunnels here, we went through about 4. One of them had pretty blue lights in it.

We got there, I found open free wifi and decided to stay in the car. I did not feel like going into another THREE sports shops. I let the boy go off on his own and chatted to mum. Only issue was if I moved the tablet only a little bit I lost the signal. Next thing I know I see a rouge mag approaching the car. He needed my help!

He had found a helmet and needed my help to make sure it was correct, fitted in all the right places etc. I grudgingly agreed to go and help. Off I went.
To end the story on a happy note. The helmet was in fact perfect. It was the right price, fitted well and looked good. We had one happy Mag!! Never seen him spend money so willing and so fast! After paying we went to walk back to the car only to see it was once again CHUCKING IT DOWN. It was like I was cursed or something. Swearing happened. I took a deep breath and went for it. Not running just walking hunched and briskly to the car. Mag suggested I wait by the curb and he would drive over. I turned down this, as by the time he had got the car over to me I would still be soaked. Got in the car soaking wet, cold and feeling a bit sick. Not good.

I warned mag I felt like I was going to throw up. You know just that feeling you get that starts in your tummy. He suggested I went to sleep to help me feel better. I did just this once we got out of town.

I woke up just as we pulled on to the road outside the house. Perfect! I also felt much better! Win Win!

We didn't bother with any dinner since we ate out for lunch

All in all that was our day.

Walking = Pizza right!?

25th September

We were hoping the weather was going to be kinder to us today, at 7am this morning our hopes were dashed when we awoke to what sounded like someone throwing marbles on the roof!

I plucked up the courage to peek out the blind, and low and behold it was chucking it down and haling. bugger.

We chose not to leave early and stayed in till about 11ish, by then the rain and hail had stopped, the sun was trying its best to break through the clouds.

We headed out head to one of the local nature walks, which happens to have a castle near by too. The castle is located at Torpa Stenhus - http://www.torpastenhus.se/. The castle had sadly closed to the public just the week before, but we had a little wander around outside.

After this we marched off ready for adventure on the red cow walk! Yes thats right our walk was a cow! I was only 2.5K but with the weather looking so uncertain we did not want to be out for hours on end in the middle of a forest walking in the rain.

During the drive in, I noticed that they had cows in some of the fields and horses. I was hoping I would get to see some and say hello. The two cows above where right be the fence until we walked up. Then they walked off and refused to come over. Meanies.

As you can see the sun did come out for a little while. In fact just long enough for us to enjoy this walk.

I had a go at taking a panorama with my phone too, never used this feature before, and im pretty pleased with it!

Further down the walk, I saw an area which had a few horses. One of them was a foal, just as I saw about to take a photo the little beggar laid down!! You might be able to see him or her peeking up above the log!

After about 10 minutes of me talking to them and making daft horse sounds, and approaching different part of the fence one of the horses started to walk over! It was very unsure at first, but I had a little chat and fed it some grass. It did try and bite me until I told it otherwise and said I was a friend.

Here I am feeding it some grass.

Mag got a bit bored waiting for me to stop talking to the horse, so I thought id better walk on a bit more with him.

After our walk we headed back to the town next from where the house is and had another walk around the factory shops here. I managed to find a new hoodie for 200Sek which is about £20 or less. Really nice. Will put a photo up another day.
Since I was shattered, we both agreed to have dinner earlier than normal and it would be Swedish pizza, now their pizza is just fantastic its the pizza of your dreams!!

Mine is the one on the left - Super (pretty much kebab meat and salad on a pizza)
Mag's is on the right and he had a Gallstad special - kebab meat with pickled chillies!
Both came with white sauce on them called Sas, we have no idea what is in it but its amazing and I wish I could bottle it up!

After pizza I did some uni work, managed to start my next assignment got just under 300 words done and part 1 a done. So that's a bonus!

Tired now will update tomorrow  :)

Vikx goes mad(er) and buys a few Swedish cakes!

So each time I walk around the bakery section of a Swedish supermarket I have to stop myself from drooling everywhere. I mean it does not just smell great everything looks great to. Dieter's nightmare I tell you! So yesterday I went and got a mini selection of their best sellers.

After our bread and cheese we cracked open the cakes. Now I got 4 cakes and 1 biscuit type thing. We only tried the biscuit and 2 of the cakes (not that much of a piggy!)

Sadly I forgot to make a note of their real names. So for now (until we go back again) I will use the names I created. Here we go

Weird Pine Cone Cake...(tis the best I could come up with)

When I picked this up at the supermarket it was heavy like really heavy. Along the lines of a newborn would be about right. Anyhow didn't let that put me off. I was excited to try this, it looked tasty. I thought it may have fruit hidden away inside it. Something like the pear hidden inside the pastry on GBBO.

I was very disappointed upon cutting the cake open, to find that it was in fact just one big solid lump of cake, and to add insult to injury it was not even nice cake. IT WAS ALL COCONUT....I mean come on. It was gross. I had to spit mine out. Mag ate his and the rest of my half. He said it reminded him of a bounty bar just with less chocolate.

Vikx - 1 out of 10
Mag - 5 out of 10

Up next we have the Doughnut type thingy

Now this looked good to me, it had sugar on it and it was giving me a cheeky little glimpse of filling. Sort of flirting with me!! HA

Check this beauty out! OK so its appearance may not have been that fantastic, but the taste OH MY. It was good so good, drool inducing good..Check out the amount of filling in this bad boy!

Now it can only really be described as a light doughnut. The dough seemed very much like a doughnut but it was lighter and do not have that greasiness to it. Which at times I find the cheaper doughnuts do.
The filling was the real surprise, it was vanilla creme patisserie, and a good hefty amount of it too. I could not recommend this cake enough. (can you tell I liked it)

Vikx 10 out of 10
Mag 8 out of 10 (did he not eat the same cake?!)

So thats the cakes we tried last night, some good some clearly not so good. I will do another post about the last to soon :)

Rain rain go away until about October the 4th ish....

24th September. Woke up to be greeted by a rather wet and miserable Sweden.

That put a spanner in the works for our day out walking, so plan B. We head in to Boras have a wander around and maybe get some lunch.

Before we left mag had a quick chat with his mum on the phone, she recommended a place to go for lunch. Not expensive and quick service. An Indian called Masala

The only have two things on the lunch menu each day, so it was pretty easy to choose! I went for a chicken curry and mag had the lamb. We sat down ordered and within about 10 minutes we had the food! We also shared a cheese and coriander naan. The food was really good.

As you can see the portions were a decent size. My chicken was brilliant, it was tender and no cheap bits of chicken. It was all breast meat. Mag says in total the price came to £17.50 for the pair of us. The speed of service was great too, we were in and out in about 20 minutes.

After lunch, we decided to walk in to town and have a look at the shops. Or in mags case go in to every sports shop he can find to see if they have any hockey helmets.... I think we went in to about 6 in the end and only 1 of them had any hockey helmets and that selection was pretty poor. After the wonder about we went over to a shopping area called knalleland. We went here last year for a look about.

You could really tell the difference in a year, a lot of the shops had closed which is a shame as they seemed quite busy last year. Mag had a look a games store just to see what there is. Their DS games are so expensive. I saw a Kirby game which was 449Sek which works out at roughly £50. No way was I paying that much.

I remember telling a friend at work that there are no sushi places, and ironically  during our walk around we found 3 all in walking distance of each other....typical!

Afterwards we decided to head home, but noticed there was loads of traffic so went to ICA Maxi. Which is just a bigger ICA supermarket. It was packed due to the working day and the school day just being over.

We got some little bits and bobs, I picked up some local cake things which I will talk about shortly. I also found a strawberry and white chocolate Magnum. I had to try one and oh boy I was not disappointed!

Both and and I agreed that its better than the mint version and that's saying something! It was so fruity and yet at the same time creamy.

So well that was yesterday. We didn't end up going for a walk as the weather was not so great, we ended up having bread and cheese at home due to having lunch out.

Oh but I did get to watch Bake Off with my mum which was great, the joys of the Internet! We watch it at the same time and talk about it via facebook chat!

Meatballs in Sweden...it would be rude not to!

21st to the 23rd September

Doing a few days in one update here. Here we go.....

Due to all the travelling we did, we both agreed that our first day here would be totally chilled out. My day started when mag woke me at 10am!! Apparently I was super tired.

For brunch we had bacon rolls, oh goodness me I love the bacon over here. Reminds me very much of American bacon. Its just so darn good! I wish I could buy loads and take it all home. Maybe...we shall see.

So after a relaxing morning we got ready to go do some proper shopping, since the night before we only got bits for dinner. Off we headed ICA and Lidl.

Lidl is pretty much the same as it is over in the UK, same sort of stock and produce. I wrote about ICA in one of my posts last year. So not going to go over it all again :)

We decided on lasagna and herb bread for dinner. They don't seem to do garlic bread over here, but to be honest the herb bread is just fantastic any way!

We got back home, I did a little uni work to try and stay on top of everything. I just stopped to take a break when I heard a distant rumble, ( I forgot to mention earlier on I told mag go to for a snooze as he fell asleep on the sofa) I thought that cannot be mag snoring. It was in fact a thunderstorm which had come on over. Mag came down asking if a big lorry had just gone past!
We decided to pull up the blinds and watch the storm. One thing I did notice was the difference in volume of the thunder. Mag says that the storms over here go towards the big lakes naturally. Which does make sense, and the reason it is loudly is this country is just flat with trees! There are no big high rises or built up areas to trap the noise. The storm passed in about an hour. We tired to turn on the TV to find that the power to the house had been knocked out. Electrician Mag to the rescue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22nd September

We woke up to a blowing gale and pouring rain. Looks like we caught the end of the storms which hit the UK and France over the weekend. After waiting for a while to see if the rain died down (it did not) I asked if we could head to the A6 centre and Ikea. Its all indoors and will get us out the house for a bit.

We got ready and braved the wind and rain, mag said the drive over us tough but doable. I think he's really getting to like this new car!

Best thing about this car HEATED SEATS!! Oh yeah. We both turned them on high, man my butt was warm and toasty. Had it on most of the way. Even had a little snooze. I was very happy sat in that car.

So any way, we parked up after looking for a space not too far away from the entrance (it was still raining) and headed in the to A6 centre. This place is just a shopping mall with random shops, shoes, clothes, cosmetics etc

We had a wonder about, didn't see the point in rushing. I saw on one of the ferries over some body shop BB cream. Now since body shop sold out to l'oreal a few years ago I haven't bothered with any of their products, but I was pleasantly surprised by this BB cream. So decided id have another good look in a proper store and not just a stand on a ferry. We walked in and I had a mooch about, the girl at the counter started to talk to me in Swedish, before I panicked I said "BB Cream" at which point she switched to English and helped me.

We tested 2 different shades on my skin, and had a good little chat about piercings, tattoos, the UK. The girl said her English was not very good. I told her I disagree, it was fantastic. Did say it was better than my Swedish, she laughed! She was however totally confused as to why we would want to holiday in Sweden. Especially in an area which does not have much in the way of tourist attractions.

What can I say, we really like the place. Its so chilled out. We don't really have to worry about anything whilst we are here. If we feel like heading out and about we can, if not we can stay at home and chill out.

After deciding on a colour and paying for the item, I was given some freebies. A perfume and some hand cream. I must say they gave me a largish tub for the hand cream with a tiny dot of the cream in it....a tad stingy IMO. :( The BB cream cost about £15 which is expensive but my skin since arriving here has been terrible.

We carried out on mooch about the mall, didnt really see anything else. Oh although we had a look in a toy shop. They had the minecraft lego for sale for £40!!! So expensive.

After this we marched on over to Ikea. I wanted to grab some lunch. Now what do you eat when you're in Sweden and Ikea?! You got it

MEATBALLS!!!!!

Ok so I started to eat them before I took the photo, but you get the idea. Mag had a breaded pork thing, he let me try a bit and it was pretty good! Think with 2 refillable drinks, the food and a slice of cake lunch came to about £13. Not too bad.

Mags mum gave us a ring to see how we we're doing. Then off to started for our epic trip around Ikea. Now its pretty much the same as it is in the UK. Just some of the products are different. Like their beds, they are massive and super comfy.

We did well and walked around most of the roll area pretty fast. I even made it through the candles without stopping to smell everything. We did however stop in the art section, now not sure if they do these in the UK but they have a new range of wall decals!! We will be going back to purchase some of these, for our friends and for our home! So excited. Not going to go into much detail as it might ruin the surprise for our friends.

I love cacti so had to have a good look, I came across this wonderful tall cacti with a bright orange top. I think it has been grafted on to the top of the plant but I don't really care its so pretty. I have named it Einstein, since he always came up with bright ideas!!!

He will be joining my ever growing collection at home!

I also got some Swedish gravy, 2 packets for us and 2 packets for some Friends over in Florida!

After Ikea we popped in to CityGroce again, we needed some fresh bread. We didn't need much else. I did find some Princess cake (the one which was recently on bake off!)
For £16 I could have got one large enough for 10-12 people but I was good and got 2 slices for £3.50. Just look at those layers!! Mary Berry would be proud! The jam is I think raspberry. Mag and I shared a slice that evening. Very yummy and a must if you are ever coming to Sweden.

Due to having lunch out we just had some leftover bread and salad for dinner. Nothing overly exciting!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

23rd September

Totally chill out day today, well for mag any way. I decided I wanted to focus some of this time away from everything on my uni assignments. So that's pretty much what I have done all day. Made some good progress too.

We want to try and get out one night to go look at the stars but looking at the sky tonight its just to cloudy and overcast. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow. Leaving that one to mag.

Tonight for dinner its meatballs and rice!

Il sign off for now, with a photo of some of the bits I've got for now!

Did someone ask for Liqourice ice cream and real moonshine!!

Long road to ruin...or should that be roshult

Saturday 20th September - Following on from the breakfast post!

We arrived in a foggy denmark at about 13:00. All in all the crossing was very smooth. Just a tad foggy.

We packed up our stuff and headed to the car. Nothing overly exciting to report here!

Our journey to roshult would take about 8 hours give or take and over 350 miles. Poor mag at least he had a good nights sleep!

The roads over here are so straight, you can see forever on them.

The drive up was OK, I got so bored but you would when there is nothing to do! We stopped for some breaks, and then stopped to get some food as there would be nothing at home when we arrived.

We stopped at a CityGroce which is one of their big supermarkets over here, love going there. They have so much stuff! We opted for bread, cheese and then some salad bits for dinner. Simple quick and easy!

We arrived at the house at about 9pm, unpacked the car then ate.

I had waited for over a year to enjoy Swedish beetroot salad!! It happens to be one of the best things on this earth (as far as I am concerned) Mag got potato salad for himself.

All the Rodbetssallad is, is beetroot with creme fresh and mayo (well I think that's about right) need to brush up on my Swedish some more. It pretty much goes with anything. I love it on fresh bread with a little bit of cheese, or on a Swedish crisp bread.

After this we headed to bed, we were both so tired from traveling. So exciting I know!

Sail away Sail away....

Friday the 19th of September time to set sail!

The night before I sorted all my clothes out into their sections in the living room. Mag did his packing before we left! (Typical last minute man)

I packed my bag, and then started to sort out the house and the reptiles. Mag packed his bag we loaded up the car and set off on time!!

We drove down to Harwich, stopping at Morrisons in Harwich to get some extra bits we ran out of time to get.

We arrived in good time at the check in for the ferry, we checked in and then waited in a queue for about an hour with the other cars to load the ferry. We played games on our tablets and sorted out what we wanted to take on the ferry with us.

Boarding time arrived and due to the cabin class we are in, we got preferred parking. We got to park behind this retro looking caravan, I had a quick peek inside through the windows and it looked pretty barren inside!!

We found our cabin, number 1032. It was one of the four which opens right on to the first class lounge! We felt very lucky indeed!!

The cabin was very nice. At first we were a little disappointed that there was no fridge with free drinks inside that was until the server advised us that in the lounge there is 24 hour free food and drinks!!!! We of course had to check this out, so within the first 10 minutes of being checked in and before the ship had even left the port we were enjoying the delights of free booze! I had champagne and mag tired to make himself a bloody mary, when pouring in the vodka he did not see that there was a no jigger or limiter so it just kept pouring and pouring. Needless to say it was more vodka than tomato juice!

He ended up leaving the bloody mary and having a tonic water instead!!! We chilled in the lounge for a bit ( I wish I got more photos of it) then decided that we would go and chill in the cabin. Mag started to watch rubbish TV and I think a bit of a film whilst I sort of snoozed and watched some videos on youtube. We had free wifi! It was great until we go out into the middle of nowhere!

At about 7:30 UK time and 8:30 on board the ship (it runs to Danish time) we went for our buffet dinner.
We where seated right next to the window. Love to sit by the window and watch the world go by, but since it was pretty dark and foggy (they kept using the fog horns) I didn't get to see much at all :( Mag said I could go up first and get some food whilst he stayed at the table. Just my luck that I went up just as a massive bunch of rather rude and loud school children (i think they were Danish) all went up as well. So I was stuck in a queue for about 10 minutes longer than normal. Apparently mag was looking so glum on his own at the table, the people next to us started to talk to him and tell him its not the end of the world etc... oh dear

I was rather disappointed with the selection, of course there was seafood there was so much seafood I bet if you stacked it, it could reach the moon. But I don't like seafood so that option was out..... So I went to the hot section to see what they had. This time they had ribs which I passed on, some sort of German sausage which I passed on. Chips OK we were doing OK with the chips. Got a little portion of those, looked to see what else there was ooo Fresh roast turkey OK il have some of that too, oh and maybe some of the ham. Lovely. Topped it off with some nice gravy. I headed back to see glum mag and show off what I had found. It was now his turn to go do the hunter gathering. He was lucky and missed the mass of children. Instead we had to put up with listening to this drunk woman who we think was from Essex, she kept shouting that shes an Essex girl and proud of it. She must have been in her 50's or something. Not a good look.

I went up for seconds, it was a buffet after all. Didn't get any more ham as it was far to salty. Terrible. Just stuck with chips, turkey and even more gravy. I'm a simple soul really! It was lush. Filled me right up. In fact I couldn't finish it. Mag had the rest of the chips and mopped up all the gravy too. We shared a pudding too, just went half and half. Had some sort of moose thing, was a bit like Angel Delight but not quite....random.

By this point we were both shattered and decided to call it a night, so we headed back to the room. It had been a long few days what with mags car accident and me working. We both agreed it was time for bed. We looked at the clock and it was 9.15....we really do know how to live a rock and roll life!!!

Having twin beds in the cabin was nice, as I had the air vent right above me, so I was nice and cool all evening!! Plus I was right next to the wall, so no chance of me rolling over and face planting the floor. (its happened before) I can say I had one of the worst nights sleep for a long time. My UP 24 said I only got 4 hours of sleep, which to me felt about right. I know at one point, whilst Sir Snores a lot next to was in the land of ZZZZZZ I was putting a new screen protector on my phone... I played games on my tablet for a while too and read some news articles. in the voice of comic book guy "Worst nights sleep Ever"

Morning came around, mag got up and decided to have a shower first. Let me snooze in a little more. We got ready and headed to breakfast. Since we were in special cabins we got to sit in a roped off area. Bit like being a VIP along with 50 or so other people at once. I knew what was coming up next

Waiter - "Would you like bacon and eggs?"
Me - "Yes please but no eggs"
Waiter - Confused look on their face, "err OK no eggs just bacon?"
Me - "Yes that's correct"

Stupid conversation over, mag and I got our tea and coffee and settled in. The bacon I have to say is fantastic oh just so good. Mag once again was not impressed with the lettuce with his breakfast. He clearly stated that it is not a breakfast food and should not be aloud. I just looked at him and ate mine... Pretty sure you can work out which one was mine from the photos!

After breakfast we headed to the on board shop to have a quick look around. You have to really its like the law!!
I didn't see to much I wanted to buy, the perfume I was looking for was not for sale, but I did get another one instead along with some hair oil and a almond and salted caramel toblerone. It sounded different. Yet to taste it.

Also got a little (we think) foam banana sweet to try too. All in all that came to about £25, which is not too bad.

For the rest of the morning journey I was really tired and just curled up in a ball on my bed and tried to snooze. Failed massively though.

I will leave you with some photos of the sunset and sunrise on the ship. I will finish writing up the rest of the journey tomorrow as its 23:37 here now.....and im tired.
